10 Steelers to Miss Preseason Opener vs. Texans
Three more Pittsburgh Steelers will miss the preseason opener against the Houston Texans, after Mike Tomlin had already ruled seven out.
PITTSBURGH โ Ten members of the Pittsburgh Steelers are not expected to play in Friday nightโs preseason opener against the Houston Texans, with three more players not participating in warmups after head coach Mike Tomlin had already ruled seven players out earlier in the week.
Kicker Chris Boswell, wide receiver Roman Wilson and nose tackle Breiden Fehoko all did not dress for warmups.
Boswell has also frequently taken the first preseason game off over the years. Experienced backup Matthew Wright will handle all the kicking duties on Friday, including the Steelersโ first look at the new NFL kickoff rules.
Fehoko suffered a shoulder or arm injury during training camp practice at St. Vincent College on Tuesday, and was not at practice on Wednesday or Thursday. His long-term status is unknown. The Steelers will be down to Keeanu Benton and Montravius Adams at nose tackle against the Texans.
Roman Wilson has been out since spraining his ankle during the first padded practice of training camp on July 30. He has recently been spotted at practice without a boot or wrap on his injured left ankle, and could be in line to return to practice action when the Steelers get back to St. Vincent College, starting on Sunday.
Tomlin had already ruled out quarterback Russell Wilson, guard Isaac Seumalo, outside linebackers Alex Highsmith and T.J. Watt, inside linebacker Patrick Queen, safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and defensive tackle Cam Heyward. Queen and Russell Wilson both took warmups in uniform, despite not being expected to play.
