Steelers Draft

While last year’s NFL Draft was held entirely virtually during the early part of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s affair will be a mix of in-person and virtual processes.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will be announcing the picks — and now that he’s been vaccinated, handing out awkward hugs — in an outdoor amphitheater on the shore of Lake Erie in Cleveland, Ohio, and while the NFL’s coaches and general managers will be in their war rooms at home, some of the top-rated players will be in attendance in Cleveland.

Thirteen players have confirmed their attendance for the draft:

Christian Barmore, DT, Alabama
Ja’Marr Chase, WR, LSU
Caleb Farley, CB, Virginia Tech
Mac Jones, QB, Alabama
Trey Lance, QB, North Dakota State
Micah Parsons, LB, Penn State
Kyle Pitts, TE, Florida
Gregory Rousseau, EDGE, Miami
Rashawn Slater, OT, Northwestern
Devonta Smith, WR, Alabama
Patrick Surtain II, CB, Alabama
Jaylen Waddle, WR, Alabama
Zach Wilson, QB, BYU

It doesn’t seem likely that the Steelers’ first-round pick will come from that group, though it’s possible someone slides down the draft board unexpectedly.

More likely, the Steelers top pick will be watching from home like everyone else, though an additional 45 players have agreed to have cameras in their homes to participate virtually, including most of the Steelers potential options for No. 24:

Carlos Basham, EDGE, Wake Forest
Rashod Bateman, WR, Minnesota
