TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — For three seasons, linebacker Christian Harris has been a staple in the middle of one of the best defenses in college football at Alabama.

Harris started as a freshman during the 2019 season and made the SEC’s All-Freshman team. Two seasons and two runs to the National Championship Game later, he is ready to make the jump to the NFL as a possible first-round pick in next month’s draft.

Not only would Harris fit a need for the Steelers at inside linebacker, but his play style is also similar to that of linebackers recently selected in the first round, including Pittsburgh’s Devin Bush. That combined with his history of playing in different positions has Harris feeling optimistic ahead of the draft.

“It definitely helps me gain a lot of confidence,” Harris said about seeing similar players drafted. “Just knowing that being versatile, in high school being able to play a lot of positions, I’m able to utilize some of those things that I can’t right now as linebacker. It kind of gives me an advantage over a lot of guys in my class.”

Harris did mention he has an in-person interview with the New Orleans Saints, but in the big picture he has had discussions with teams all over the NFL between the NFL Combine in February and Pro Day.

“I start in New Orleans (this week),” Harris said. “I’ve talked to the majority of all the teams. I just have a couple visits lined up for me next week. I really just want the opportunity to showcase what I really can do.”
