Analyst Gives Reason Steelers Should Be Optimistic for 2025 Season

CBS Sports analyst Tyler Sullivan believes there's at least one reason the Pittsburgh Steelers should be optimistic for the 2025 season.

There isn’t a ton of optimism surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 2025 season, given the state of their quarterback room. But Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports believes there is a least one reason the Steelers should be optimistic.

While Pittsburgh doesn’t have a bonafide starting quarterback on its roster, Sullivan thinks things are finally looking up offensively after the team acquired another star wide receiver in DK Metcalf this offseason.

“The Pittsburgh Steelers spent eternity trying to land another impact receiver for their offense and were constantly coming up short,” Sullivan writes. “At long last, they finally landed their big fish, executing a blockbuster trade with the Seattle Seahawks for two-time Pro Bowl receiver DK Metcalf, whom they then inked to a $150 million extension. With Metcalf now inserted into the offense, the skill position group is ready to take a step forward with George Pickens and Pat Freiermuth already established. Now, they just need a quarterback.”

Metcalf is exactly the type of player the Steelers have been missing on offense. He has proven to be one of the best wide receivers in the league while recording 438 catches for 6,324 yards and 48 touchdowns through the first six years of his NFL career. He has also never had less than 900 yards and five touchdowns in a season.

The addition of Metcalf will prevent teams from double-teaming Pickens and forcing one of Pittsburgh’s other weapons to step up. That should only open things up for the Steelers offense.

However, Metcalf could also prove to be the exact reason Pittsburgh eventually lands a starting-caliber quarterback in Aaron Rodgers.

The two had a throwing session at UCLA in March and Rodgers came away from that meeting very impressed.

“I wanted to do due diligence with this whole process, and part of it is talking to a guy like DK,” Rodgers said. “And let me say this, what a great dude who loves football and what a specimen this guy is.”

It’s very unlikely the Steelers will reach their championship aspirations on the shoulders of Metcalf and Rodgers, but they may be enough to finally end the team’s eight-year playoff win drought in 2025.
