Analyst Rips Idea of Aaron Rodgers to Steelers

Both paths, no matter how different, lead to one destination. After being frozen out by Justin Fields, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback plans appear to involve Russell Wilson or Aaron Rodgers.
Wave Sports + Entertainment’s Bomani Jones believes the Steelers adding Rodgers this free agency cycle would almost be the same as signing Wilson this time last year.
“Now, the Steelers have DK Metcalf, but they also still need a quarterback,” Jones said Monday on his podcast. “And you hear them talk about Aaron Rodgers, and Aaron Rodgers had just good enough stats for you to think he’s not cooked. And I would make the argument that was also the case last year about Russell Wilson.
“He had good enough stats for you to think that he wasn’t cooked. And maybe you don’t think that Russell looked like he was cooked last year, but he was not cooking.”
Considering Aaron Rodgers’ 2024 season and another suitor
Rodgers threw for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions last season with the New York Jets. He’s 41 years old and in the twilight of his career.
The four-time Associated Press NFL MVP wasn’t the Steelers’ first choice. Entering Monday, many believed Fields was their preferred option. He spurned them to join the New York Jets on Monday shortly after Sam Darnold agreed to terms with Seattle.

Rodgers went 6-12 as the Jets’ starter. He has a suitor other than the Steelers who could keep him close to where he’s been.
“The Giants could still snatch him by making the kind of financial offer that isn’t in the same ballpark as where the Steelers are,” Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio said Monday night. “I don’t know where the Steelers are going to be. Earlier today, we had a semi-educated guess of two-year, $90 million with $40 million fully guaranteed at signing.”
