B.J. Finney Starts at Left Guard For the Steelers vs. Bengals

PITTSBURGH — The Steelers left guard situation has been one that is undoubtedly in flux. Kevin Dotson and J.C. Hassenauer both went on injured reserve over the last two weeks, leaving the Steelers to play Joe Haeg in a pinch against the Chargers.

However, it appears that Haeg will not be receiving the start on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. Instead, it will be the veteran B.J. Finney. Finney, who has played sparingly this year, has a long line of experience for the Steelers in the past. That includes starting 13 games for the Steelers in the past.

The grizzled veteran in Finney works as a guard and center reserve and was signed as a free agent this offseason after signing a deal with the Seahawks in 2020. Still, Finney’s return to the lineup will have ramifications for the Steelers, and especially how they employ their depth.

Haeg will likely work as the backup swing tackle. Behind Finney, Haeg could be used in an emergency pinch, but newly signed lineman John Leglue may be the main backup for the Steelers on the day.
