Bad Sign for Jaylen Warren? Steelers Add RB from Practice Squad

The Pittsburgh Steelers elevated a running back from the practice squad on Saturday, a bad sign for Jaylen Warren.

The Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t make an official announcement about the status of running  back Jaylen Warren for Sunday’s Week 11 matchup with the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday, but they did make another move that isn’t a great sign for his status.

Warren was officially listed as questionable to play on Friday. Between Warren, Najee Harris and Cordarrelle Patterson, the Steelers have just three running backs on their active roster. Patterson has played just one game since returning from an ankle injury, and Harris appears set to play through an ankle injury of his own suffered last week. The Steelers could use tight end Connor Heyward, a college running back, to fill in, but they’re also likely to be short at that position with MyCole Pruitt listed as doubtful with a knee injury.

So the Steelers certainly won’t want to play short at the position if Warren is unable to play. They signed running back Jonathan Ward from the practice squad to the active roster on Saturday, a sign that Warren will not be ready to play.

Warren finished last Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders without apparent issue and practiced on Wednesday this week before being held out of practice on Thursday and being limited on Friday.

Listed with a back injury, Warren was seen simply watching his teammates during the individual portions of practice on Friday.

The Steelers don’t need to make a formal announcement about Warren’s status until 90  minutes before kickoff on Sunday, but a back being called up on Saturday is a strong sign for Warren’s inability to shake off the injury and suit up.
