Breakdown of Steelers’ Day Three Selections in 2021 NFL Draft

The Pittsburgh Steelers are scheduled to have five selections in the third day of the 2021 NFL Draft on Saturday.

The selections will start shortly after noon, and the third day of the draft will be again broadcast on ABC/ESPN and NFL Network, though ABC will not have a separate broadcast for Rounds 4-7.

The action will pick up with the Jacksonville Jaguars making selection No. 106 in the fourth round. The Steelers’ first selection will come 22 picks later at No. 128.

Pittsburgh has two fourth-round selections, 128 and No. 140, with the latter being a compensatory selection for the team losing free agents after the 2019 season. The Steelers lost defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, offensive lineman B.J. Finney, defensive back Eric Ebron, linebacker Tyler Matakevich and tight end Nick Vannett to free agency last offseason, while adding fullback Derek Watt and tight end Eric Ebron in free agency.

They earned the fourth-round selection for the loss of Hargrave, the signings of Ebron and Watt canceled out the losses of Davis and Finney and the Matakevich and Vannett fell just outside the league’s formula for awarding another selection.

The Steelers traded their fifth-round pick in this year’s draft to the Baltimore Ravens for defensive lineman Chris Wormley last offseason. Baltimore flipped that to Minnesota in an exchange of draft picks last year. The Steelers have the Ravens’ seventh-round pick as part of that trade.

In the sixth round, the Steelers do not have their original pick at No. 207. That was sent to Miami as part of the Minkah Fitzpatrick trade. Miami then traded it to Kansas City for running back DeAndre Washington. Pittsburgh has Miami’s seventh-round pick from this trade, as well.

Instead the Steelers have Tampa Bay’s sixth-round pick at No. 216, which they got for tackle Jerald Hawkins back in 2019. That trade also sent the Steelers’ seventh-round pick in this year’s draft to Tampa. The Steelers ended up re-signing Hawkins last season after the Buccaneers put him on waivers. He is currently a free agent.
