Aaron Rodgers has spent much of his career trying to outshine Brett Favre. As fate could have it, the former could follow in the latter’s footsteps again. To do so, Rodgers would have to spurn the Pittsburgh Steelers and instead join the Minnesota Vikings.

Favre thinks that plan would work out favorably for his Green Bay successor. Rodgers could help the Vikings win now while serving as a bridge for them to move on to J.J. McCarthy. McCarthy was Minnesota’s No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

“By all means, sign with them,” Favre said Tuesday during an appearance on “The Will Cain Show.” “They got a really good football team. They’re loaded at pretty much every position. They made it to the playoffs last year. They got a tremendous fan base, much like the Packers. If you get the opportunity, that’s a good place to win. Of course, you gotta play the Packers then.”

Looking At Parallels Between Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre

Favre was a three-time Associated Press NFL MVP with Green Bay, with whom he also won Super Bowl XXXI. The Packers traded him to the New York Jets in 2008 to open the door for Aaron Rodgers. Favre spent one season there, then two with the Vikings, going 17-12 as a starter in Minnesota. If not for an ill-advised cross-body interception in the 2009 NFC Championship game, Favre might have reached Super Bowl XLIV during his first go-round in purple.

Aaron Rodgers took over behind center for the Packers after Favre was sent off. He also won a Super Bowl with Green Bay, downing the Steelers in 2011, and collected four AP NFL MVP awards. The Packers traded Rodgers to the Jets, too. His time in New York was just as disappointing as Favre’s, as Aaron Rodgers went 6-12 in just over a full season as the Jets’ guy.
