Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders’ wait is finally over. The Cleveland Browns are selecting him with the No. 144 overall pick in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

It was quite the fall for Sanders, who was ranked as the second-best quarterback and No. 12 overall player on the NFL Mock Draft Database consensus big board.

However, many believe there were several factors into his slide, including his father’s heavy involvement in the pre-draft process and him not interviewing very well.

Nonetheless, Sanders now joins a very busy quarterback room in Cleveland, which is already home to veterans Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, along with third-round pick Dillon Gabriel.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were among the teams that showed interest in him, hosting him for a pre-draft visit earlier this month. But it became increasingly clear that they had no interest in him after passing on him through the first four rounds of the draft.

Instead, the Steelers chose to address their aging defensive line with Oregon’s Derrick Harmon in the first round, depleted running back room with Iowa’s Kaleb Johnson in the third round and bolster their edge rushing core with Ohio State’s Jack Sawyer in the fourth.

Pittsburgh is still expected to address their quarterback room with just Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson under contract for the 2025 season. And the team still has options on the board in Ohio State’s Will Howard, Syracuse’s Kyle McCord and Texas’ Quin Ewers.

Sanders threw for 7,364 yards, 64 touchdowns and 13 interceptions over the past two seasons at Colorado.
