Chase Claypool is saying his farewell to Pittsburgh. After the former Steelers wide receiver was traded to the Chicago Bears, Claypool reflected on his time in the Steel City fondly. He returns to the Midwest after playing his college football at Notre Dame, but is grateful for all of the lessons learned in the AFC North.

“I will always have an unbelievable amount of love for Steelers Nation and the organization that drafted me out of Notre Dame,” Claypool wrote. “I am beyond grateful for the amazing people in Pittsburgh for embracing me & the lifelong memories made. Now… Back to business in the Midwest.”

Chase Claypool will now be inserted in a receiver lineup sorely lacking options outside of Darnell Mooney. He has the opportunity to be the main target for Justin Fields in the offense Luke Getsy envisions. As for the Steelers, they got a solid two and a half years out of Claypool as a receiver. His inconsistency sprouted concerns over his long-term outlook in Pittsburgh and that contributed to this likely in part.

Either way, the Steelers got a second-round pick out of the pick and Claypool gets out of an offense that often failed to maximize his skillset as a big slot receiver. His mismatch potential is all there, the question will be his consistency and Getsy’s ability to scheme him in the right ways.
