The Pittsburgh Steelers have ruled kicker Chris Boswell out of Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles with a groin injury, the team announced on Saturday. Boswell was originally listed as questionable to play in the team’s initial injury report on Friday.

Boswell was first listed on the Steelers injury report on Friday, when he missed practice with the previously unannounced injury. Boswell was a full participant in the team’s practices on Wednesday and Thursday before suffering the injury. The Steelers have not revealed how Boswell was injured. He finished the team’s Week 7 game against the Miami Dolphins without apparent issue.

The Steelers do not have a kicker on their practice squad at the current moment, though they will undoubtedly sign one at some point before Sunday’s 1 p.m. kickoff in Philadelphia.

Wake Forest alum Nick Sciba, who was with the team in training camp, is available. So is Matt Lambo, who was on the team’s practice squad in 2021 when Boswell suffered an injury.

Punter Pressley Harvin III is the emergency kicker, but when Boswell left in the first half of the Steelers game at Cleveland last year, Harvin was limited to kickoffs only. It’s unclear if the second-year punter has gotten any more comfortable at placekicking in the meantime.

Boswell hasn’t missed a Steelers game since 2020, when he missed four games with hip and groin injuries. Matthew Wright, who replaced Boswell in 2020, is currently a member of the Kansas City Chiefs’ active roster.

The Steelers do not have an open spot on either their 53-man active roster or 16-man practice squad, so they will need to make a corresponding transaction in order to add a kicker ahead of Sunday’s game.

Backup cornerback Josh Jackson was also downgraded from questionable to out with a groin injury. Quincy Wilson is a candidate to be elevated from the practice squad to take Jackson’s place on the active roster. The Steelers will also be without starting cornerback Levi Wallace, who was previously ruled out with a shoulder injury.
