Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Omar Khan revealed on Tuesday at the NFL Combine that the Steelers are planning to tender running back Jaylen Warren, retaining him for the 2025 season.

“I’m confident we’re going to tender him and be in a position where Jaylen’s going to be here,” Khan said.

Warren, 26, is a restricted free agent, which means teams can still negotiate with him. However, the Steelers will have the right of first refusal to match the offer sheet. If they don’t, they can receive a draft pick in return equivalent to the tender.

With the NFL salary cap set at $279.2 million, the Steelers know now how much the tenders will be for Warren.

The first round tender is $7.458 million, while the second round tender is set at $5.436 million. The Steelers could also place the original round tender on Warren, which would cost them $3.406 million. There is no draft compensation, however, since Warren was an undrafted free agent. The right of first refusal tender costs slightly less at $3.263 million.

The Steelers will likely choose between using a second-round tender and original-round tender on Warren. An extension at a later date could also be in the cards. But using a tender on him will be the first order of business.

Warren has yet to serve as a No. 1 running back in the first three years of his NFL career, but he has flashed that he could be that while rushing for 1,674 yards (4.8 yards per carry) and six touchdowns during the span. He also has 127 catches for 894 yards.

Khan left the door open for Najee Harris, but on the surface, it seems unlikely that the Alabama product will be back with the Steelers.
