Contract Trouble with T.J. Watt Already? | Steelers Morning Rush

Steelers T.J. Watt

Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it’s the idea that the team and T.J. Watt are at some kind of a contract impasse.

Watt ramped up speculation that something might be amiss with a cryptic Instagram post on Wednesday. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network said on Thursday that could mean things aren’t going well in negotiations between the team and Watt on a long-term contact extension.

Watt is entering the final season of his contract, and with Myles Garrett re-setting the edge rusher market at $40 million per year, he is likely due for a significant raise. But general manager Omar Khan said he is hopeful the Steelers will be able to sign Watt to an extension.

Could there really be trouble brewing? Alan breaks it down.
