Daily Links: Heywards Special Day in Atlanta; Fitzpatrick’s High Marks

Steelers Preseason TE Connor Heyward

Minkah Fitzpatrick received the highest Pro Football Focus grade (92.0) for his performance in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 19-16 win over the Atlanta Falcons. Fitzpatrick was exceptional in coverage as he allowed just 21 yards and a 47.2 rating, along with the game-sealing interception. Pat Freiermuth (91.1), Najee Harris (86.6), Cameron Heyward (72.3) and Kenny Pickett (70.1) rounded out the top five in PFF grades from the win over Atlanta.

According to Elias Sports Bureau, the Heywards are the first brothers with a sack and a touchdown catch in the same game since sacks became an official statistic in 1982.

Joe Burrow (4) has made more starts against the Steelers than Lamar Jackson (3), who will likely miss this week’s game again with a left knee injury. This would be the fourth game that Jackson has missed against the Steelers in his career.

Mike Tomlin snapped at a fan for trying to talk to him at halftime of the Steelers-Falcons game. Tomlin was walking down a hallway back to the field and was reading something, while a fan by the name of Fernando Perez on Twitter  said, “Coach Tomlin, let’s go for the win, man” with a thumbs up. Tomlin was in no mood and tersely said, “Man, I’m f***ing working.” The scene went viral as the fan posted the recorded video on Twitter. Tomlin’s two sons, Dino and Mason, chimed in on Twitter with some humor. “I’ve learned the hard way,” Dino quote tweeted the video of his dad grilling the fan. While Mason said, “Definitely been there before.”

James Harrison joined Ben Roethlisberger on his Footbahlin podcast to watch the Steelers’ win over the Falcons. Along with sharing a number of stories from their playing days in Pittsburgh, Roethlisberger and Harrison also debated their college matchup when they competed against each other in the MAC.

Pat Freiermuth is one of two tight ends in the league this season with at least five games of at least 75 yards receiving. Only Travis Kelce, with seven, has had more games with at least 75 yards receiving this season.

The Detroit Lions signed former Steelers quarterback Josh Dobbs to their practice squad.

Baker Mayfield requested to be released and the Carolina Panthers honored it on Monday morning, the team announced.

The Heywards homecoming to Atlanta on Sunday was incredibly special, as Connor Heyward caught his first career touchdown pass against his late father’s former team. As they walked off the field in Atlanta, Mike Tomlin and Cam Heyward shared a neat moment discussing Connor’s touchdown.
