🏈 Pro Football Talk: San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Javon Hargrave sustained a partially torn triceps in Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams and likely will miss the remainder of the 2024 NFL season, coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters on a conference call Monday.

“It’s a big [loss], and I thought he had his best game yesterday,” Shanahan said. “I thought he was a huge factor. Really affected the quarterback in that game and it’s a big loss, and he’s one of our better players. He was definitely going the right direction and was going to have a big year.”

Hargrave was a third-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2016. He spent his first four seasons with Pittsburgh (2016-2019).

🏈 Former Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey approves of rookie center Zach Frazier.

“I’m on board with him 100%,” Pouncey said on Ben Roethlisberger’s Footbahlin podcast. “He could be a staple here at the Steelers. Talking to him today on the field, and seeing his motivation. I also talked to the O-line coach (Pat Meyer). Super smart kid. Obviously had a great career at the University of West Virginia. The Steelers need that.”

“The game will slow down for him as he grows as a player. I think he has all the ability, obviously the physical ability, the mental ability to be a great football player for the Steelers,” Pouncey added.

🏈 Monday night’s game between the Washington Commanders and Cincinnati Bengals marked the first game since at least 1940 in which neither team punted the ball or had a turnover, per the Elias Sports Bureau.

🏈 Former Steelers offensive tackle Trent Scott caught Jayden Daniels first NFL touchdown pass in the Commanders’ 38-33 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night.

🏈 The Bengals dropped to 0-3 with Monday night’s loss to Washington. Only four teams since 1990 have started 0-3 and made the playoffs.

🏈 NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger raved about Steelers outside linebacker Nick Herbig’s performance against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. Filling in for an injured Alex Highsmith, Herbig had two tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss and a forced fumble in the second half.

🏈 Baldinger also praised rookie center Zach Frazier, who’s been nearly flawless in his first three games.

🏈 Happy Birthday to Steelers legend “Mean” Joe Greene, born on September 24, 1946 in Temple, Texas. Greene is universally recognized as the greatest Steeler of all-time. Former Steelers head coach and Hall of Famer Bill Cowher recently named Greene as the greatest defensive player in franchise history.

“Two-time Defensive Player of the Year. … He means everything to Pittsburgh. He exemplifies what a Steeler is,” Cowher said on the NFL on CBS pregame show.
