PITTSBURGH — Diontae Johnson did not have the 2022 he wanted. It was a year that was marred by his ups and downs to the extreme, as Johnson did not catch a touchdown all season but had some impressive flashes as always after getting an extension from the team during the summer.

So, setting goals for 2023, Johnson is shooting for the stars. Johnson wants to put it all together and become of the NFL’s best receivers, including earning an All-Pro honor and knocking into the Top-5 for receiving yards. That’s the type of season that Johnson is looking for from himself.

“Definitely All-Pro, Pro Bowl. Over 1,000 yards. Over 100 catches. Top 10, top 5. Saying that in the most humble way. Really, that is pretty much it,” Johnson said. “I pray over my goals. If I achieve them, I achieve them. If I don’t, I just keep working. At the end of the day that is all I can do.”

Diontae Johnson says that he has not changed up his training much this offseason, but focused on his route running and footwork in and out of his breaks. Those are two things that he believed held him back at times last year and contributed to those levels of inconsistency at times.

“I didn’t change anything, just trying to stay more conditioned,” Johnson said. “I tried to run a little more. Focus on routes, and catching the ball. I can get better at every aspect of my game. Honed in on my footwork and trying to get a bit more crisp.”

A lot of this will be tied to how Kenny Pickett plays, of course. The return of Calvin Austin III could aid Johnson in his quest if he can prove to be a valuable contributor. Regardless, Johnson wants to become an All-Pro and have an elite season to take his standing in the NFL to the next level.
