A new documentary series following Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s comeback from injury debuted on YouTube Wednesday.

The first episode of “Bigger Than Ben” chronicles the criticism of Roethlisberger leading up to the 2019 season, his season-ending elbow injury suffered Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks and the immediate aftermath. The 17-year veteran and his wife Ashley are predominantly featured, revealing the behind-the-scenes effects his injury had on their marriage, and that the couple weighed retirement.

Roethlisberger also details his relationship with late Steelers wide receiver coach Darryl Drake, who passed unexpectedly prior to last season. Head coach Mike Tomlin and wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster are also featured, speaking on their relationships with Drake and the impact his sudden death had on them personally and the organization.

Steelers team doctor James Bradley is interviewed as well, and reveals the extent to which Roethlisberger’s elbow was damaged. He says that had Roethlisberger not opted for surgery to repair the elbow, his career would have been over.

The series is produced by Mango Dragon Productions, and will be released in four parts.
