Elijah Green, the son of former Steelers tight end Eric Green, was selected by the Washington Nationals 5th overall in the 2022 MLB Draft. He was a consensus Top-5 prospect in the draft, including being ranked 3rd in the official MLB.com draft rankings.

A year ago, it was thought that Green could potentially land as the first overall pick. Green played at IMG Academy in Florida. Only 18, he is young, but Green’s got the physical size and upside of his father. Coming in at 6-foot-3, 225 pounds. His dad, Eric, was 6-foot-5, 280 pounds during his playing career.

Eric Green was selected in the first round of the 1990 NFL Draft by the Steelers. As the 21st overall pick, Green had plenty of expectations of himself, and he largely lived up to that billing. In his career, Green made two pro bowls and racked up over 4,000 receiving yards over a 10-year NFL career. He is one of four tight ends to be selected in the first round by the Steelers in team history.

Now, Elijah Green will look to channel all he has learned from his dad. The athletic ability is there. In his senior season at IMG Academy, Green racked up 9 home runs and 32 RBIs while posting an impressive .462 batting average.

Before the draft, Eric Green sent his son a heartwarming message on his draft day.

Champ your family and friends are extremely proud of you,” Green said. “Today is YOUR DAY!!! Enjoy and embrace every moment of it!!! God has a plan for your young life son!!! Let him be your guide!!! Love Ya DAD.”
