First and 10: Change of Phase

Published

on

The Pittsburgh Steelers ended training camp last week, with the team closing up shop after nearly a month of practices at Heinz Field.

But they’ll continue to work, with practices moved to UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on the South Side as the team navigates its final portion of the preseason schedule. These practices represent a bit of a change of pace from the training camp grind. They’re rarely padded. They have a work-week tempo that includes more scout team work and more game plan instruction and less of the first team facing the first team.

From a coverage standpoint, they’re more like a regular season practice, in that we’re only allowed to share with you what is told to us by players and coaches, and not our own observations. But the coverage will continue from the South Side with practices all this week in the lead up to the preseason finale on Friday in Charlotte, and next week as the Steelers have a one-week hiatus between the preseason and regular season, a feature of the new schedule.

Today, Alan Saunders and Nick Farabaugh will have coverage from the South Side.
