First and 10: If Not Chase Claypool, Who Are NFL’s Top 3 WRs?

Published

on

Steelers wide receiver Chase Claypool said on the I Am Athlete podcast that he believes he can be a top-three wide receiver in the NFL on Monday, which caused a bit of a stir.

Claypool is an extremely talented young receiver, and might be able to be a top-three NFL wideout some day, but that day is not today. But if not Claypool, who are the top three wide receivers in the NFL?

Let’s take a look, based on what a variety of different stats from the 2021 season say:

YARDS: Cooper Kupp, Justin Jefferson, Davante Adams

RECEPTIONS: Cooper Kupp, Davante Adams, Tyreek Hill

TARGETS: Cooper Kupp, Davante Adams, Diontae Johnson

CATCH PERCENTAGE: Rondale Moore, Hunter Renfrow, Kendrick Bourne

YARDS PER RECEPTION: Deebo Samuel, Ja’Marr Chase, Donovan Peoples-Jones

YARDS PER TARGET: Deebo Samuel, Ja’Marr Chase, Kendrick Bourne

TOUCHDOWNS: Cooper Kupp, Mike Evans, Ja’Marr Chase

YARDS AFTER CATCH: Cooper Kupp, Deebo Samuel, Ja’Marr Chase

DROP RATE: Devin Duvernay, Braxton Berrios, Tyler Lockett, Tyler Boyd (all tied at zero)

PASSER RATING WHEN TARGETED: Randall Cobbs, DeAndre Hopkins, Allen Lazard

CONTRACT AAV: Tyreek Hill, Davante Adams, DeAndre Hopkins

Of those top three lists, Cooper Kupp appears the most often, five times. Davante Adams and Ja’Marr Chase appear four times. I think that’s. pretty fair top three. Deebo Samuel is listed three times and might have a case to make if you include his rushing ability.

What do you think?
