There has been plenty of speculation that the Pittsburgh Steelers and Aaron Rodgers could be a good fit after the 2021 season, and recent friendly exchanges between Rodgers and Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin have done little to quell that speculation.

On Wednesday, former Steelers cornerback Bryant McFadden predicted that Rodgers will end up with the Black and Gold in 2022.

“The quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022 will be Aaron Rodgers,” McFadden said on his All Things Covered podcast with Patrick Peterson. “The reason why I say that, I watched the game this past Sunday. If a man had a football crush in the game of football, Mike Tomlin’s football crush would be Aaron Rodgers. The way he looked at him on that penalty, it was like ‘Man. That’s my football crush.’

“And they’re going to need a quarterback next year and Aaron hit Mike T with that little smirk like ‘What’s up?’ It was like they gave each other a sign without giving each other a sign. … Aaron Rodgers is Mike Tomlin’s football crush and Aaron Rodgers is going to be free.”

Rodgers has a contract with the Packers through 2023, but the two sides agreed to revisit his situation next spring after a contentious offseason, in which Rodgers demanded a trade. Rodgers felt that the organization did not seek or value his input in constructing the roster and threatened to retire if he was not traded before eventually working out a deal to remain in Green Bay through at least the end of the 2021 season.
