Former Steelers offensive lineman Derwin Gray hinted at a potential return to Pittsburgh on Thursday, posting a cryptic tweet to Twitter.

Gray played both guard and tackle during his time in the NFL. He was drafted by the Steelers in the 7th round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Maryland. Gray started the Steelers’ second matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals in 2020 at guard. However, he was released and claimed by the Jaguars. From there, Gray would spend the rest of the 2020 season in Jacksonville.

In the offseason, Gray would join the Tennessee Titans. He would spend the 2021 season there, but was released in June of 2022. Gray has failed to catch on anywhere else during the 2022 season. However, the Steelers could look to add Gray to the practice squad for some familiarity and veteran experience.

Gray played in five games for the Steelers in 2020 after being activated from the practice squad in late September that year, with his most extensive playing time coming on Dec. 21, when he played 16 offensive snaps against Cincinnati and earned praise for his run-blocking ability.

The Steelers tried to play Derwin Gray at guard, but he moved back to tackle after leaving the team. While he offers versatility, the Steelers would have to be mindful of that distinction should he return to the team late in the season.
