With the COVID-19 vaccines being the best way to ensure Heinz Field can return to full capacity this fall, and former Pittsburgh Steelers have partnered with UPMC to encourage fans to receive their shots.

In the PSA, former Steelers Jerome Bettis, Franco Harris, Ryan Shazier and Will Allen share why they made the decision to receive the vaccine and express its importance and safety.

Getting vaccinated was all about returning to some semblance of normal life for Shazier.

“I get to see my family again, I get to spend time with my friends, go out to eat,” Shazier said. “And look forward to going to Steeler games soon.”

Allen is encouraging those populations most vulnerable to make the smart choice and receive the shot.

“And more importantly, for our Black and Brown communities, the most vulnerable populations have been impacted and devastated,” Allen said. “So it gives them a chance to be safe.”

Just like all four made big plays for the Steelers on the field, Bettis is asking fans to do their part for Pittsburgh.

“For me, getting the COVID-19 vaccine is critically important,” Bettis said. “We all need to make this big play.”
