From the Steelers Locker Room: Roethlisberger, JuJu Stressed Having Fun before Comeback vs. Colts

Just have fun may have seemed like a strangely timed locker room message.

After all, the Steelers offense had just sputtered through a first half for the second straight week. The previous week’s slow start had resulted in a loss to AFC North bottom-feeder Cincinnati and led to a players-only meeting for the offense in the week leading up to Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts.

But that was the message that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger delivered in the Pittsburgh locker room Sunday after and it was a message that apparently resonated, as the Pittsburgh offense got back on track in a big way in the second half, responding to defeat the Colts, 28-24 and clinch the team’s ninth AFC North title and first since 2017.

Roethlisberger and wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster talked with the media, including Alan Saunders of Steelers Now, about the team’s first-half struggles, Roethlisberger’s halftime speech and second-half turnaround in the Steelers’ 28-24 win over the Indianapolis Colts at Heinz Field on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2020.
