PITTSBURGH — The famous Heinz Ketchup bottles were removed from the scoreboard of what is now Acrisure Stadium on the North Shore on Monday, as the Pittsburgh Steelers quickly began their transition in signage for the new name in advance of the 2022 season.

The Steelers’ first preseason game at Acrisure Stadium against the Seahawks is less than a month away. If the goal is to have everything changed by then, the Steelers are wise to move as quickly as possible. Not seeing the ketchup bottles will take getting used to for fans. However, it is now a reality as crews turn Heinz Field into Acrisure Stadium over the next month. It’s not clear what will happen to the bottles.

“We appreciate the twenty-plus year relationship we had with Heinz and we are optimistic and hopeful that we will still continue to have a sponsorship relationship with them,” president Art Rooney II said. “We are having those discussions. Who knows, the ketchup bottles could be part of that, we’ll see.”

The 15-year deal with Acrisure is worth $150 million, eclipsing the previous contract with Heinz three-fold.
