You can’t fight Mother Nature.

That was the message from Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin on Tuesday as he packed his team up on buses and made the trip across Pittsburgh from their 2020 training camp home of Heinz Field to their usual regular season home, UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. Once on the South Side, the Steelers filed into the indoor practice facility, where Tuesday’s work took place in just helmets and pad shells.

In addition to getting his team out of the rain and keeping that additional amount of wear and tear on the stadium turf to a minimum, Tomlin also said going through the team’s travel procedure for the first time with COVID-19 protocols in place was a success.

“We exercised some precaution, but it also gave us an opportunity to move this group, change locations and still adhere to the COVID protocols that come with transportation, the buses and so forth,” Tomlin said. “That was a good rep for us.”
