Since he was drafted and a viral meme spread on Twitter from George Pickens and his draft party, the young receiver adopted the nickname ‘NFL Youngboy’ from the fans as a reference to rapper NBA Youngboy.

However, on Instagram this week, it appeared that Pickens shunned that nickname when his bio read ‘I’m GP, fck NFL Youngboy’. On Thursday, Pickens appeared on the Arthur Moats podcast for an interview and clarified why he does not like the nickname given to him by fans.

“It’s really self-explanatory for real,” Pickens said. “To be honest bro, I wasn’t really ever a big fan of it. That’s really what the fans were coming up with. I’m really a laid-back type of person so I just let it go, and linger on. Then, it just got lowkey corny. I never really accepted it anyway, so I’m telling people, ‘I’m GP’.”

It seems that Pickens simply found the nickname to be inauthentic and fake, which is understandable if that is not who he is. George Pickens has grown nicely into the next dimension of his game, catching the game-winning touchdown against the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday night. The rookie has seemingly wowed in every game this year, racked up 700 yards on 47 receptions along with three touchdowns.
