Insider: Aaron Rodgers has Remained in Constant Contact with Steelers

NFL insider James Palmer reports free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers has maintained a line of communication with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It remains to be seen when free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers will make a decision on if and where he wants to continue playing in 2025. But NFL insider James Palmer provided a promising update for those hoping he will eventually land with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Palmer wasn’t able to give any more insight as to when Rodgers will make his decision but hints things are still pointing towards him signing with the Steelers.

“Aaron Rodgers has remained in relatively constant contact with Mike Tomlin and the Steelers,” Palmer said on Pittsburgh’s 93.7 The Fan.

The news doesn’t come as a surprise. It’s clear that Pittsburgh is all in on Rodgers after only using a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on Ohio State quarterback Will Howard.

That has caused many to believe the Steelers have lost all of their leverage with Rodgers, but his options have all but run out as well.

In addition to Pittsburgh, Rodgers has also been linked to the Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants and Cleveland Browns. However, the Vikings traded for quarterback Sam Howell during the draft, the Giants traded back into the first round to draft quarterback Jaxson Dart and the Browns drafted two quarterbacks in Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.

That has left Rodgers’ decision down to the Steelers or retirement, barring an unforeseen injury elsewhere.

Rodgers has looked far from his four-time NFL MVP self, too. In 2024, he threw for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while leading the New York Jets to a very disappointing 5-12 finish.

Rodgers revealed he has been focused on dealing with personal matters this offseason.

“Right now my focus is, and has been, and will continue to be on my personal life,” he said.

But with no timeline yet to be set, it’s still unclear when this saga will finally end.
