ESPN insider Adam Schefter threw some cold water on the idea of the Pittsburgh Steelers potentially trading for Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf.

Metcalf has been brought up by many Steelers fans desperate to address the team’s wide receiver situation, including running back Cordarrelle Patterson, who sent Metcalf a tweet over the weekend.

But Schefter said he has not heard anything about Metcalf being available.

“That’s an example of a curveball I’m not expecting,” Schefter said in an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Monday. “I’ve heard nothing about DK Metcalf. That’s the first time I’ve heard about that.”

Metcalf, 26, has one season after this one remaining on his contract with the Seahawks, and is one of Seattle’s top offensive playmakers, so him being traded was always unlikely.

The Seahawks have faded after a hot start to the season, but remain just one game out of first place in the ultra-tight NFC West.

In seven games this season, Metcalf has caught 35 passes for 568 yards. He has missed the team’s last two games with a knee injury, but is expected to return after Seattle’s Week 10 bye.

The Steelers have been desperately seeking help at the wide receiver position since trading Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers back in March. The club notably tried and failed to land San Francisco 49ers star Brandon Aiyuk before the season. Aiyuk has since suffered a season-ending knee injury.

Omar Khan and company were also involved in talks to land Las Vegas Raiders star Davante Adams, but he was instead traded to the New York Jets last week. The Steelers also missed out on Tennessee Titans veteran DeAndre Hopkins, who was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs. The Steelers were considered the favorites to land Cooper Kupp, but his performance in a Los Angeles Rams upset victory on Thursday seems to have him off the market. Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Christian Kirk suffered a season-ending collarbone injury this weekend, taking himself off the market.
