Is Mike Tomlin Holding Back the Steelers Passing Game? | Steelers Morning Rush

Steelers

Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it’s whether Mike Tomlin is the reason for the Steelers’ poor passing game.

Pittsburgh has not had a dynamic passing offense in quite some time, and some like to point to their unwillingness to throw to risky areas of the field as a reason, citing the risk aversion of head coach Mike Tomlin as holding back the offense.

But that logic is backward. When Tomlin has had quality offensive personnel, he’s been fine with having a prolific and risky offense. Lately, he hasn’t, so the team has played things close to the vest instead.

Alan breaks it down.
