The New York Jets have hired Steelers analyst Jay Whitmire, according to his LinkedIn page, as first reported by ESPN’s Seth Walder.
Whitmire, who specializes in football analytics, was hired by the Steelers as an analytics intern in 2018, and was promoted to football analyst in 2019. Whitmire will be manager of football analytics with the Jets.
Whitmire is a graduate of the University of Virginia, where he played offensive line from 2011-15.
Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert discussed Whitmire’s contributions to the team’s scouting process just after the 2021 NFL Draft.
“The analytic part will continue to grow,” Colbert said on the Steelers’ Youtube in May. “We have two you men who help us in our scouting staff, Tosin (Kazeem) and Jay (Whitmire). They do awesome work.”
Kazeem is also a football analyst on the Steelers’ staff.
