‘All In’: J.J. Watt Declares Himself a Steelers Fan Moving Forward

J.J. Watt didn’t ever suit up as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, but the team has gained his support through family ties.

“I’m a huge Steelers fan,” Watt said on the Barstool Sports ‘Pardon My Take’ podcast. “I’m all in on the Steelers.”

Surely, that has a lot to do with his brother, Steelers stalwart T.J. Watt, starring in black and gold. His other brother, Derek Watt, has also been with Pittsburgh for the past three seasons.

J.J. Watt recently retired from professional football after a 12-year career that saw him earn five first-team All-Pro selections. He spent the last two years in Arizona — showing glimpses of his talent while dealing with injuries — and was set to become an unrestricted free agent before calling it quits.

Many hoped that J.J . would complete the trifecta and close his career out on the same defensive front as T.J. The pair has combined for four Defensive Player of the Year awards, with T.J. taking home the honors in 2021 after a 22.5-sack showing.

“He’s been talking about it for a little bit,” T.J said of J.J.’s retirement announcement in December. “Never knew how serious it was until the last couple of months. Super proud and happy for him … Just a hell of a career.”

While the dream of the two playing together never materialized, J.J. could become a fixture at Acrisure Stadium in another way — waving a Terrible Towel and cheering on his family members.
