Joe Schobert Starting ILB on Steelers’ Third Depth Chart
The Pittsburgh Steelers released their third depth chart of training camp Tuesday, and the recently acquired Joe Schobert has already assumed the starting inside linebacker spot alongside Devin Bush.
Schobert was taking first-team reps almost immediately after he was traded to Pittsburgh from the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Veteran linebacker Robert Spillane has been bumped down to the second team as a result of Schobert promotion. Marcus Allen is currently listed as the Steelers’ third-string linebacker behind Schobert and Spillane. Ulysees Gilbert III and rookie Buddy Johnson are slotted behind Bush.
The rest of the depth chart is largely the same, even on the offensive line, where J.C. Hassenauer remains listed as the starter at center over rookie Kendrick Green. Green has started both preseason games at center and taken the bulk of his reps with the first team, but Hassenauer was also listed as the starting center when camp began.
Second-year guard Kevin Dotson has once again assumed his starting job on the left side of the offensive line after working with the second string following his return from injury.
Even though he has not practiced much over recent weeks with an undisclosed injury, running back Benny Snell Jr. is still listed as the backup running back behind Najee Harris. Snell’s placement is a somewhat of a surprise considering his recent lack of availability and the impressive play of second-year back Anthony McFarland Jr. through the first two preseason games.
