Pittsburgh Steelers QB Josh Dobbs

PITTSBURGH — The Steelers kept the three quarterbacks that everyone expected. Ben Roethlisberger, Mason Rudolph, and Dwayne Haskins are officially the Steelers’ quarterbacks for the 2021 season. However, Josh Dobbs was not released, but rather put on injured reserve.

Since he went on injured reserve with a turf toe injury, and will likely stay there the entire season, it gives Dobbs a unique opportunity. Matt Canada was asked during his meeting with the media on Wednesday whether it was possible that Dobbs could help around the building even as he is on injured reserve. The answer appears to be yes.

“Yeah, obviously, a really tough situation with him getting hurt,” Canada said. “He came out and he’s played well and was playing well last week. Had a big run there. Just an unfortunate situation for him that occurred, but obviously, because of that, he has to do what he has to do. He’ll be around here as he’s able to be. When he’s around, we’re always going to enjoy that because he’s a great resource of knowledge and just a great team guy”

Roethlisberger has been outspoken in how much he likes having Dobbs on the sideline to help out whenever possible. It appears that may very well be possible yet again in 2021 as Dobbs is seemingly out for the season with the injury. The logistics of what will go on between Dobbs and the quarterbacks are not clear, but Dobbs will certainly be a resource.
