JuJu Smith-Schuster Wins First Career Super Bowl With Chiefs

JuJu Smith-Schuster

Former Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster has won his first career Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs as they defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 in Arizona at Super Bowl 57.

The Super Bowl was also Smith-Schuster’s first appearance in a Super Bowl, and he was an instrumental part of the Chiefs’ fourth-quarter push to overcome a 10-point halftime deficit. On the day, he finished with 7 catches for 53 yards on the day against the Eagles.

In addition, JuJu Smith-Schuster forced the controversial holding penalty on Philadelphia’s James Bradberry that allowed the Chiefs to run out the clock and hit the game-winning field goal. All in all, for someone who only signed on with the Chiefs for one season, he accomplished the ultimate goal of every NFL player when they enter the league.

Other connections, including Chiefs wide receivers Skyy Moore (Shady Side Academy) and Justin Watson (South Fayette) are WPIAL products. Moore played with Mike Tomlin’s son, Dino, at Shady Side Academy. Kicker Matthew Wright is also on the Chiefs’ practice squad. When filling in for Chris Boswell (injured reserve) from Weeks 9-12, Wright made 12 of 14 field goal attempts and was 7 of 7 on extra points. Former Steelers draft pick Chris Oladokun is on Kansas City’s practice squad.

Mahomes ended up taking home the MVP honors for the second time in his career. At only 27 years old, Mahomes is now a two-time Super Bowl MVP and Super Bowl champion. The Chiefs overcame a 10-point deficit against the Eagles at halftime to win the game for their second Super Bowl in four seasons.

Smith-Schuster played for the Steelers from 2017 to 2021 after being drafted out of USC in the 2017 NFL Draft. He grew up a Steelers fan, although coming from Long Beach, California. However, they never reached the big dance with Smith-Schuster on the squad. So, he took a leap and joined the Chiefs, and now, he has reached the biggest stage in the NFL.
