Steelers Now has confirmed that Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert has resigned from Robert Morris University’s Board of Trustees.

Colbert’s resignation was first reported by the Colonial Sports Network on Monday, and later confirmed with the university by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review’s Tim Benz.

“We certainly are grateful for the time he served on the board and the substantial support he’s given the university over the years,” a Robert Morris representative told Benz.

Colbert’s sudden resignation is believed to be linked to the university’s shocking and controversial decision to disband their men’s and women’s hockey programs.

A 1979 graduate of Robert Morris, Colbert joined the university’s Board of Trustees in 2011.
