The Pittsburgh Steelers made a big change at the quarterback position, moving on from former first-round draft pick Kenny Pickett this offseason and replacing him with former Super Bowl winner Russell Wilson.

The Steelers did OK as a team last year despite the trio of Pickett, Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph delivering well below average quarterback play. They finished 25th in passing yards, 22nd in net yards per attempt and 21st in team passer rating, but won 10 games and made the playoffs, thanks mostly to an impressive defense.

While the Steelers passers were struggling, Wilson was having an average season in Denver, despite the Broncos falling apart around him. He finished 19th in passing yards, eighth in passer rating and 23rd in net yards per attempt.

If the Steelers can still get high-level play from their defense, and improve their play at the game’s most important position, how much better can they be with the addition of Wilson?

Alan Saunders joined Chris Carter on the Locked On Podcast to break down how the Steelers’ outlook has improved in making the switch from Pickett to Wilson, what areas the veteran should be expected to be better in, and how the offense might still have to deal with some weaknesses in his game.
