Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin tweeted out a salute to Dr. Cornel West following his resignation from Harvard University.

“Salute to Dr. Cornel West…that’s the tweet,” Tomlin said Tuesday.

West, a prominent Black scholar and activist, announced his resignation from his teaching responsibilities at Harvard in March after claiming he was denied tenure.

Ultimately, West made the decision to cut ties entirely on Monday and tweeted out the “candid” resignation letter he sent to a Harvard dean.

In part, West’s letter of resignation criticizes Harvard for the tenure situation, the administration’s stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict and his former colleagues’ indifference to the death of his mother.
