The Pittsburgh Steelers coaching staff will remain intact for the foreseeable future, with head coach Mike Tomlin choosing not to make any changes after a 2-6 first half of the season.

All of the Steelers coaches were in their regular places as the team worked through its two bye week practices this week, and asked directly after Wednesday’s session, Tomlin said that he was no longer considering making any changes to his coaching staff.

Tomlin had said earlier in the season that he would leave all changes on the table, but has ruled out using the bye week to be the catalyst for those changes. The Steelers got two extra practices this week and will have one additional extra practice next Monday before getting into their normal preparation for the New Orleans Saints in Week 10.

The calls have been loudest for Tomlin to move on from offensive coordinator Matt Canada, who said on Tuesday that he had not been given specific assurances about his future, but “feels good” about his ability to continue to work on the offense.

Tomlin did leave the door open to other changes, but did not specify what that might be.

“I know that we’re open to doing whatever’s required for us to be better,” Tomlin said.  “We’ve got some planning ahead, particularly as it pertains to our next matchup. So no, I’m not excluding anything that you might determine to be significant.”

Tomlin already made one significant change to the makeup of his lineup, with a pair of deadline day trades sending out wide receiver Chase Claypool and brining in cornerback William Jackson III.

Tomlin said the team was looking to increase its available draft capital in acquiring Claypool, while he said Jackson is a player they’ve had their eye on since just missing out on him in the 2016 NFL Draft, and the Steelers hope he can add to their cornerback room down the stretch.
