Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris showed off the Pittsburgh Penguins new Winter Classic threads during the Penguins’ game against the Columbus Blue Jackets at PPG Paints Arena on Tuesday.

Harris attended the game wearing the Penguins throwback-inspired uniform that they will wear against the Boston Bruins in the 2023 NFL Winter Classic.

The Penguins are wearing uniforms based on the logo of the short-lived Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh’s first NHL team that played at Duquesne Garden from 1925-30. The team moved to Philadelphia amid the Great Depression in 1930.

Three years later, the Pittsburgh Steelers were founded, and they also went by the Pirates at first, only taking the Steelers name in 1940.

Harris, the Steelers’ first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, is an Oakland, California native and played his college football at Alabama, but has taken to the Penguins since coming to the city. Just after he was drafted, Harris and the rest of his rookie class took in a Pittsburgh Penguins playoff game in May.

The Penguins last played in the Winter Classic in 2011 at Heinz Field, losing that game 3-1 to the Washington Capitals. They beat the Buffalo Sabres 2-1 in a shootout in the inaugural Winter Classic in 2008.

The Penguins and Bruins will play at Fenway Park on Jan. 2, 2023. Fenway Park is one by Fenway Sports Group, which owns the Boston Red Sox and purchased the Penguins in 2021. The game will be broadcast in the United States by TNT.

Harris seems to have recently turned around his second season with the Steelers, and has run for 80 or more yards in three of the last four games.
