New Steelers Preston Smith, Mike Williams Primed for NFL Record
Steelers Morning Rush: Pittsburgh Steelers trade deadline acquisitions Preston Smith and Mike Williams are set to tie an NFL record after missing their bye weeks.
Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it’s what happens to the Steelers trade deadline acquisitions that won’t get their bye week.
The Steelers were on their bye week when they acquired Mike Williams from the New York Jets and Preston Smith from the Green Bay Packers on Tuesday, but Smith and Williams had not yet had their bye weeks with their previous teams.
So that means that Smith and Williams are now one of five players that could tie the modern NFL record for games played in a season, set by Leonard Williams last year.
Of course, the players are being paid the same as everyone that’s only playing 17 games, so that might be something of a dubious record.
Alan breaks it down.
