Odds: Mason Rudolph, Derek Carr Favorites to be Next Steelers Quarterback

The Pittsburgh Steelers will most likely have a brand new starting quarterback next season, and oddsmakers believe he is already on the roster.

Mason Rudolph is the favorite to be Pittsburgh’s starter to begin the 2022 season at 11/4, courtesy of BetOnline.

Selected in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Rudolph has served as Ben Roethlisberger’s primary backup for the last three seasons.

Rudolph has passed for 2,366 yards and 16 touchdowns with eleven interceptions in 17 career games.

He started one game this past season, quarterbacking the Steelers to a 16-16 tie with the Detroit Lions in Week 10.

While many believe the organization will give Rudolph the opportunity to be the starter next season, the second-best odds belong to a surprising external option.

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is 7/1 to be the Steelers’ starter in Week 1.

Carr has one more year on his current contract with Las Vegas, but there is a widely held belief the organization could part ways with their longtime starter upon hiring their next head coach.

Carr has thrown for 31,700 yards and 193 touchdowns with 85 interceptions over eight years as the Raiders’ franchise quarterback.

He has earned three Pro Bowl nods and led the franchise to the playoffs twice.

Others that oddsmaker see as viable options for Pittsburgh entering next season include current San Francisco 49er Jimmy Garappolo (15/2), Pitt’s Kenny Pickett (9/1) and current third-stringer Dwayne Haskins (10/1).

Seattle’s Russell Wilson and Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers have longer odds at 12/1 and 16/1, respectively.
