On this Date: Steelers Drafted DL Cam Heyward in 2011
Not only is today the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, but it also marks the anniversary the Pittsburgh Steelers selecting one of the best defensive players in their history.
Pittsburgh drafted defensive end Cam Heyward out of Ohio State with the 31st-overall pick 11 years ago today.

One of the NFL’s best interior defensive linemen over the last decade, Heyward earned the third First-Team All-Pro selection of his career in 2021. He also received his fifth-straight Pro Bowl nod.
Heyward has recorded 540 total tackles, 101 tackles-for-loss, 68 sacks, 42 passes defended and two interceptions. Heyward has been elected the Steelers’ defensive captain the last seven seasons.
The pick was named the NFL’s best ever out of the No. 31 slot.
