Two weeks ago, reports surfaced that the Pittsburgh Steelers drew interest from the Carolina Panthers for a joint practice. On Tuesday, it was reported the Panthers instead will joint practice with the Houston Texans.

Panthers head coach Dave Canales spoke to the Charlotte media on Tuesday. Among the topics, he confirmed they would not be performing a joint practice with Pittsburgh.

“It’s great. It just brings fresh life into the competitive environment, so I love these joint practices, and we’ll take advantage of that,” Canales said regarding joint practices.

“Not with the Steelers, though.” He concluded. Carolina will instead go to Houston for joint practices after their preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns.

Last preseason, the Steelers and Buffalo Bills had joint practices ahead of their preseason contest in Pittsburgh. Head coach Mike Tomlin may have preferred to host rather than go on the road for joint practices.

The Steelers and Panthers have a long history of preseason matchups. Up until 2022, the teams regularly scheduled their finals preseason games against each other. This preseason, they are back to this trend.

Pittsburgh will kick off their preseason in Jacksonville against the Jaguars on August 9th. They will first have their mandatory minicamp and training camps as OTA’s come to a close.
