PFF Calls Unheralded Cornerback ‘Perfect’ for Steelers in 2025 NFL Draft

Pro Football Focus named a perfect fit for each of the 32 NFL teams in the 2025 NFL Draft class, and for the Pittsburgh Steelers, PFF settled on an upgrade at the cornerback position. In the 32-team article, PFF picked East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel as the best fit for the Steelers in the upcoming draft.

Revel seems to fit the mold the Steelers have been seeking at cornerback, with a 6-foot-3 frame. He is also coming off a season-ending knee injury, something that has scared some teams away in the draft, but not the Steelers recently.

Troy Fautanu, Payton Wilson, Cory Trice, Darnell Washington and George Pickens are all recent Steelers draft picks that fell because of injury concerns, only for the Steelers to be the team to stop their slide.

Revel came out for the draft after his junior season of college, which is another trait the Steelers appreciate.

Revel is currently the No. 22 player on the NFL Mock Draft Database consensus big board, so the Steelers landing him at pick No. 21 is not a stretch at all.

Finally, there’s the need. The Steelers have three pending free agents at the cornerback position in Donte Jackson, Cam Sutton and James Pierre, with only Joey Porter Jr., Cory Trice and Beanie Bishop under contract for the 2025 season.

Though general manager Omar Khan could move to retain some of the team’s free agents, it was also made clear during their late-season slide that an upgrade in the secondary is something the team should be looking for this offseason.

“His ridiculous 2023 campaign, paired with his 6-foot-3, 193-pound frame should still warrant a first-round selection, and the Steelers have historically been willing to look past injury concerns in favor of premium talent,” PFF wrote.

The Steelers have other needs in their draft class, but Revel will certainly be a player to watch throughout the pre-draft process.
