Local Pittsburgh artist Cody Sabol painted a portrait of Dwayne Haskins on Saturday to honor his memory after the young quarterback tragically died in Florida at the age of 24. Haskins was struck by a vehicle while apparently attempting to cross a highway early Saturday morning.

Sabol is a finger-paint artist well-known in the Pittsburgh-area for his portraits. Sabol said in a Tweet that he wanted to “honor Dwayne’s life.”

“He was beloved by everyone that knew him,” Sabol said. “I wanted to honor his life, and his family through this painting. I hope you love it.”

He also released a time lapse of the painting. He said he plans on giving the portrait to the Steelers.

A star at Ohio State, Haskins found his way to the Steelers after being a first round pick with the Washington Redskins. Haskins was set to compete for the starting quarterback position once training camp opened up in the fall. His passing quickly spread across Steelers’ fanbase and the NFL as a whole, with the whole thing still feeling unbelieavable more than 24 hours later.

Those who knew Haskins personally have spoken about his infectious upbeat personality as well as his humor. Many of his teammates praised the joy that Haskins brought with him everywhere he went.
