A disastrous end to the 2024 season has led to an important 2025 offseason for the Pittsburgh Steelers, as general manager Omar Khan and head coach Mike Tomlin attempt to reverse the five-game slide that the Steelers ended last season. Here, we’ll track all of the Steelers transactions in the 2025 offseason and into the regular season.
PITTSBURGH STEELERS 2025 TRANSACTIONS
• June 5 QB Aaron Rodgers signed to one-year contract
The Steelers and Aaron Rodgers finally made it official, with the 41-year-old quarterback signing a one-year deal on the eve of minicamp.
• June 5 TE Donald Parham placed on injured reserve
Tight end Donald Parham suffered a torn Achilles at practice on June 3 and was officially placed on the injured reserve list two days later, ending his 2025 season.
• June 5 S Joshuah Bledsoe released
In order to make room for Johnson on the roster, the Steelers released safety Joshuah Bledsoe. He had been signed out of New England earlier in offseason.
• June 4 S Quindell Johnson signed
The Steelers added yet another Memphis alum, signing free agent safety Quindell Johnson to a one-year contract.
• May 30 DL Blake Mangelson released
Just a month after being signed as an undrafted free agent, the Steelers released rookie defensive tackle Blake Mangelson after rookie minicamp. He cleared waivers.
• May 27 WR Montana Lemonious-Craig signed to a three-year deal
The Steelers have signed wide receiver Montana Lemonious-Craig to a three-year deal after a tryout with the team during rookie minicamp.
• May 21 OG Lecitus Smith released
The Steelers have released offensive guard Lecitus Smtih. Smith was originally signed earlier this offseason.
• May 21 DT Derrick Harmon signed to rookie contract
The Steelers have signed first round pick defensive tackle Derrick Harmon to his rookie contract.
• May 21 OG Nick Broeker signed to one-year deal
The Steelers have signed offensive guard Nick Broeker to a one-year deal. Broeker spent the past two seasons
• May 12 RB Aaron Shampklin released
The Steelers have released running back Aaron Shampklin. Shampklin spent one season with the team and only appeared in one game.
• May 12 RB Max Hurlerman signed to one-year deal
The Steelers have signed running back Max Hurlerman to a one-year deal after a tryout at rookie minicamp.
• May 11 OT Gareth Warren signed to one-year deal
The Steelers have signed offensive tackle Gareth Warren to a one-year deal after a tryout at rookie minicamp.
• May 11 RB Trey Sermon signed to one-year deal
The Steelers have signed running back Trey Sermon to a one-year deal after tryout at rookie minicamp.
• May 9 RB Kaleb Johnson signed to rookie contract
The Steelers have signed third-round pick running back Kaleb Johnson to his rookie contract.
• May 9 DT Yahya Black signed to rookie contract
The Steelers have signed fifth-round pick defensive Tackle Yahya Black to his rookie contract.
• May 9 LB Mark Bruener signed to rookie contract
The Steelers have signed seventh-round pick linebacker Mark Bruener to his rookie contract.
• May 9 QB Will Howard signed to rookie contract
The Steelers have signed sixth-round pick quarterback Will Howard to a rookie contract.
• May 9 LB Jack Sawyer signed to rookie contract
The Steelers have signed fourth-round pick linebacker Jack Sawyer to his rookie contract.
• May 9 CB Donte Kent signed to rookie contract.
The Steelers have signed seventh-round pick corner Donte Kent to his rookie contract.
The Steelers have traded wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick.
• Apr. 30 LB Thomas Rush waived
The Steelers have waived linebacker Thomas Rush, who was signed by the team in January. Rush spent the past two seasons on the Titans’ practice squad but never appeared in a regular-season game for Tennessee.
• Apr. 28 WR Robert Woods signed to one-year deal
The Steelers have signed veteran wide receiver Robert Woods to a one-year contract. Woods, entering his 13th NFL season, has previously spent time with the Texans, Rams and Bills.
• Apr. 28 DT Montravious Adams Released
The Steelers have released defensive tackle Montravius Adams. Adams, who was signed off the Saints’ practice squad in 2021, served primarily as a depth piece along the defensive line during his time in Pittsburgh.
• Apr. 28 DB Ryan Watts released
The Steelers have released defensive back Ryan Watts. Watts who was entering his second season had experienced a career ending neck injury that was the primary reason for it.
• Apr. 26 K Ben Sauls signed as UDFA
The Steelers have signed Pittsburgh kicker Ben Sauls as an undrafted free agent.
• Apr. 26 S Sebastian Castro signed as UDFA
The Steelers have signed Iowa safety Sebastian Castro as an undrafted free agent.
• Apr. 26 TE JJ Galbreath signed as UDFA
The Steelers have signed South Dakota tight end JJ Galbreath as an undrafted free agent.
• Apr. 26 WR Ke’Shawn Williams signed as UDFA
The Steelers have signed Indiana wide receiver Ke’shawn Williams as an undrafted free agent.
• Apr. 26 FB DJ Thomas Jones signed as UDFA
The Steelers have signed South Alabama fullback DJ Thomas Jones as an undrafted free agent.
• Apr. 26 OG Aidan Williams signed as UDFA
The Steelers have signed Minnesota Duluth offensive guard Aidan Williams as an undrafted free agent
• Apr. 26 WR Roc Taylor signed as UDFA
The Steelers have signed Memphis wide receiver Roc Taylor as an undrafted free agent.
• Apr. 26 CB Donte Kent drafted with seventh-round pick
The Steelers have drafted Central Michigan cornerback Donte Kent with the 229th overall pick.
• Apr. 26 LB Carson Bruener drafted with seventh-round pick
The Steelers have drafted Washington linebacker Carson Bruener with the 226th overall pick.
• Apr. 26 QB Will Howard drafted with sixth-round pick
The Steelers have drafted Ohio State Will Howard with the 185th overall pick.
• Apr. 26 DT Yahya Black drafted with fifth-round pick
The Steelers have drafted Iowa defensive tackle Yahya Black with the 164th overall pick.
• Apr. 26 OLB Jack Sawyer drafted with fourth-round pick.
The Steelers have drafted Ohio State outside linebacker Jack Sawyer with the 123rd overall pick.
• Apr. 25 RB Kaleb Johnson drafted with third-round pick
The Steelers have drafted Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson with the 83rd overall pick.
• Apr. 24 DT Derrick Harmon drafted with first-round pick.
The Steelers have drafted Oregon defensive tackle Derrick Harmon with the 21st overall pick.
• Apr. 22 RB Jaylen Warren signed to one-year RFA tender
Running back Jaylen Warren has signed his restricted free agent tender for the 2025 season. Warren will have an increased role with Najee Harris now out of the backfield.
• Apr. 15 OL Max Scharping signed to one-year contract
The Steelers have re-signed offensive lineman Max Scharping to a one-year deal for the 2025 season. Scharping served as a depth piece for Pittsburgh in 2024. He was originally drafted by the Houston Texans in 2019 before joining the Cincinnati Bengals in 2022.
• Apr. 7 OL Calvin Anderson signed to two-year contract
The Steelers have re-signed offensive lineman Calvin Anderson to a two-year deal. Anderson played a key role as a backup left tackle last season, appearing in four regular-season games and logging 29 snaps in the wild-card game.
• Mar. 24 OL Lecitus Smith Claimed off waivers from Patriots
The Steelers have claimed offensive lineman Lecitus Smith off waivers from the New England Patriots. Smith primarily served as a depth piece at guard during his time in New England.
• Mar. 20 LB Jeremiah Moon re-signed to a one-year contract
The Steelers have re-signed linebacker David Perales to a one-year contract for the 2025 season. He appeared in 13 games last year as a rotational edge rusher behind T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, and Nick Herbig.
• Mar. 20 CB James Pierre re-signed to one-year contract
The Steelers have signed James Pierre to a one year contract. Pierre who has been on the steelers for years is a critical depth piece at the cb position as well as a strong special teamer.
• Mar. 19 DT Esezi Otomewo signed to one-year contract
The Steelers have signed defensive lineman Esezi Otomewo to a one-year contract. Otomewo spent the past four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, appearing in four games during that span.
• Mar. 17 FS Juan Thornhill signed to a one-year contract
The Steelers have signed safety Juan Thornhill to a one-year contract. Thornhill, a six-year veteran, previously spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs and Cleveland Browns.
• Mar. 17 DT Isaiah Loudermilk re-signed to a one-year contract
The Steelers have re-signed defensive lineman Isaiah Loudermilk to a one-year deal for the 2025 season. Loudermilk, a 2021 draft pick, has primarily served as a depth piece on the defensive line over the past four seasons.
• Mar. 16 DT Daniel Ekuale signed to one-year contract
The Steelers have signed veteran defensive tackle Daniel Ekuale to a one-year contract for the 2025 season. Ekuale entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent and has spent time with multiple teams, but he emerged as a reliable starter in 2024 with the Patriots, playing a key role on their defensive line.
• Mar. 13 WR Ben Skowronek re-signed to two-year contract
The Steelers are re-signing wide receiver Ben Skowronek to a two-year contract. Skowronek played for Pittsburgh in 2024, serving as a reliable depth option on the outside and contributing on special teams. He was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Rams, where he won a Super Bowl.
• Mar. 13 WR Scotty Miller re-signed to one-year contract
The Steelers are re-signing wide receiver Scotty Miller to a one-year contract for the 2025 season. Known for his speed, Miller recorded five catches for 69 yards with the team in 2024.
• Mar. 13 QB Mason Rudolph signed to two- year contract
The Steelers have signed veteran quarterback Mason Rudolph to a two-year contract. Originally drafted by Pittsburgh in 2018, Rudolph spent his first six seasons with the team before signing with the Tennessee Titans in 2024.
• Mar. 12 CB Brandin Echols signed to one-year contract
The Steelers have signed cornerback Brandin Echols to a one-year contract for the 2025 season. Echols is entering his fourth NFL season after spending the past three years with the New York Jets.
• Mar. 11 RB Kenneth Gainwell signed to one-year contract
The Steelers have signed running back Kenneth Gainwell to a one-year contract. Gainwell spent the first four seasons of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he won a Super Bowl and contributed as a reliable backup, totaling over 1,000 yards during his time with the team.
• Mar. 10 CB Darius Slay signed to one-year contract.
The Steelers have signed veteran cornerback Darius Slay to a one-year contract. Slay, who was drafted by the Detroit Lions in 2013, has spent time with both the Lions and the Philadelphia Eagles. Over the course of his career, he has earned six Pro Bowl selections and won a Super Bowl last season with the Eagles.
• Mar. 10 LB Malik Harrison signed to two-year contract
The Steelers have signed linebacker Malik Harrison to a two-year contract for the 2025 season. Harrison is entering his sixth NFL season after spending his first five years with the Baltimore Ravens.
• Mar. 10 DT Larry Ogunjobi released from contract
The Steelers have released veteran defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi, a move that creates additional salary cap space. Ogunjobi had been with the team since 2022.
• Mar. 10 Tendered an offer to RFA RB Jaylen Warren.
The Steelers have placed a franchise tender on running back Jaylen Warren. Since joining the team in 2022, Warren has served as a valuable change-of-pace option in the backfield, contributing both as a runner and receiver.
• Mar. 9 Acquired WR DK Metcalf and a 2025 sixth-round pick (185th overall) from Seattle
The Steelers have acquired wide receiver DK Metcalf in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks, sending their 2025 second-round pick in return. As part of the deal, the two teams will also swap sixth- and seventh-round picks. Metcalf, a 2019 second-round pick by Seattle, is a two-time Pro Bowl selection and earned first-team All-Pro honors once during his career.
• Feb. 21 TE Donald Parham Jr. signed to one-year contract.
The Steelers signed veteran tight end Donald Parham Jr. to a one-year contract for the 2025 season. Parham spent last season on the Denver Broncos practice squad but played his first four seasons for the Los Angeles Chargers.
• Feb. 14 OLB Preston Smith released from contract.
The Steelers released veteran outside linebacker Preston Smith in a move that saves the team cap space. The Steelers traded a 2025 seventh-round pick to Green Bay for Smith at last season’s trade deadline.
• Jan. 21 DB Cameron McCutcheon signed to future contract.
The Steelers signed defensive back Cameron McCutcheon to a future contract for the 2025 season. McCutcheon spent the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Rams. He fits the “Avatar” mold that the Steelers look for in cornerbacks as he stands a 6-foot-1 with 33-inch arms.
• Jan. 20 RB Jonathan Ward signed to future contract.
The Steelers re-signed veteran running back Jonathan Ward to a future contract for the 2025 season. Ward joined the Steelers last offseason after a tryout at the team’s rookie minicamp. He spent time on both the practice squad and active roster in 2024 as he totaled five carries for 22 yards in four appearances.
• Jan. 17 WR Quez Watkins signed contract with Arizona Cardinals.
The Arizona Cardinals signed wide receiver Quez Watkins to a contract for the 2025 season after one year with the Steelers. Watkins spent the entire 2024 season on the Steelers practice squad after not making the 53-man roster due to struggles during the preseason.
• Jan. 14 RB Aaron Shampklin signed to future contact.
The Steelers re-signed running back Aaron Shampklin to a future contract for the 2025 season. Shampklin was on the Steelers’ active roster for three games in 2024 as he recorded six carries for 17 yards.
• Jan. 14 DB D’Shawn Jamison signed to future contact.
The Steelers re-signed wide receiver D’Shawn Jamison to a future contract for the 2025 season. Jamison went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft before spending his rookie season on the Carolina Panthers practice squad. The Steelers signed him to their practice squad last season.
• Jan. 14 DT Domenique Davis signed to future contact.
The Steelers re-signed defensive tackle Domenique Davis to a future contract for the 2025 season. The Steelers signed Davis to the team’s practice squad on Nov. 5 but released him a month later. Davis has three career tackles as he appeared in two games for the Cincinnati Bengals since 2022.
• Jan. 14 WR Brandon Johnson signed to future contact.
The Steelers re-signed wide receiver Brandon Johnson to a future contract for the 2025 season. Johnson was on the active roster for three games in 2024 and recorded just one catch for nine yards.
• Jan. 14 LB Devin Harper signed to future contact.
The Steelers re-signed inside linebacker Devin Harper to a future contract for the 2025 season. Harper was a sixth-round draft choice of the Dallas Cowboys in 2022. He appeared in six games for the Cowboys before being released in 2023. He was claimed by the Cincinnati Bengals and appeared in six games for them in 2023.
• Jan. 14 OT Dylan Cook signed to future contact.
The Steelers re-signed offensive lineman Dylan Cook to a future contract for the 2025 season. Cook was expected to make the 53-man roster in 2024 as the swing tackle but a preseason injury sidelined him for a majority of the season.
• Jan. 14 DB Kyler McMichael signed to future contact.
The Steelers re-signed defensive back Kyler McMichael to a future contract for the 2025 season. The 6-foot-3 defensive back signed with the Steelers last offseason but was released as part of the team’s final roster cuts in August.
• Jan. 14 LB Julius Welschof signed to future contact.
The Steelers re-signed linebacker Julius Welschof to a future contract for the 2025 season. The Steelers originally signed the 27-year-old German product last offseason. Welschof recorded four tackles and three sacks in last year’s preseason.
• Jan. 14 WR Lance McCutcheon signed to future contact.
The Steelers re-signed wide receiver Lance McCutcheon to a future contract for the 2025 season. The Steelers signed McCutcheon to their practice squad last October but released him less than a month later.
• Jan. 14 DT Jacob Slade signed to future contact.
The Steelers re-signed defensive tackle Jacob Slade to a future contract for the 2025 season. Slade signed with the Steelers last offseason after multiple stints on the Arizona Cardinals practice squad.
• Jan. 14 LB Eku Leota signed to future contact.
The Steelers signed former Carolina Panther linebacker Eku Leota to a future contract for the 2025 season. Leota appeared in 10 games and recorded one start during his two-year stint in Carolina.
• Jan. 14 OG Steven Jones signed to future contact.
The Steelers signed former Jacksonville Jaguars guard Steven Jones to a future contract for the 2025 season. The 342-pound Jones spent his rookie season on the Jaguars practice squad without playing in a game.
• Jan. 14 OLB Thomas Rush signed to future contract.
The Steelers signed former Tennessee Titans outside linebacker Thomas Rush to a future contract for the 2025 season. Rush spent the last two seasons on the Titans practice squad without playing in a game.
• Jan. 14 RB Evan Hull signed to future contract.
The Steelers signed former Indianapolis Colts running back Evan Hull to a future contract for the 2025 season. Hull was the Colts’ fifth-round pick out of Northwestern in the 2023 NFL Draft. He has just one rush attempt for one yard in his career.
• Jan. 14 DB Joshuah Bledsoe signed to future contract.
The Steelers signed former New England Patriots defensive back Joshuah Bledsoe to a future contract for the 2025 season. Bledsoe was a 2021 sixth-round pick by the Patriots that played in four games over four seasons.
• Jan. 14 QB Skylar Thompson signed to future contract.
The Steelers signed former Miami Dolphins quarterback Skylar Thompson to a future contract for the 2025 season. Thompson was a 2022 seventh-round draft pick out of Kansas State that started four games over the last three seasons for the Dolphins.
• Jan. 13 OL Doug Nester re-signed to future contract.
The Steelers re-signed offensive lineman Doug Nester to a future contract for the 2025 season. The West Virginia alum spent the entire 2024 season on the Steelers practice squad without playing in a game.
