PITTSBURGH — With his sack of Zach Wilson against the New York Jets, Steelers outside linebacker Alex Highsmith has tied the franchise record for most sacks through four games.

Highsmith has put up 5.5 sacks through the first four games, tying James Harrison from his 2008 Defensive Player of the Year campaign. He is pacing the NFL right now as the NFL’s sack leader. Not only that, but Highsmith has racked up 14 pressures on the year as well.

In that season, not only did Harrison win the Defensive Player of the Year, but he was first-team All-Pro, and the Steelers won the Super Bowl that year.

Alex Highsmith has now put up 8.5 sacks over his last six games. While he is known as the sidekick of T.J. Watt, with Watt out, Highsmith’s productivity has continued to climb throughout the season. Highsmith’s career high for sacks is six, and it appears that he is already on pace to smash that career record through the first four games.

If Highsmith can continue his strong play, the Steelers will have a fantastic duo of pass rushers whenever Watt is ready to return the field. He can return as early as October 16th against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
