PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers added yet another player, and another key special teamer to their injured reserve list on Wednesday. Wide receiver Ben Skowronek was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday, one day after being added to the team’s 53-man roster on Tuesday.

Skowronek suffered the shoulder injury during the team’s Week 2 win over the Denver Broncos. He had been on the team’s practice squad, but was elevated to the active roster for each of the team’s first two games.

The Steelers promoted Skowronek to the active roster on Tuesday before placing him on the injured reserve list on Wednesday. He will now be paid his active-roster salary, minus any split, while he rehabs his injury. The severity of his injury has not been reported, but by rule, he must now miss at least four weeks while on the injured reserve list.

The Steelers can recall six more players from the injured reserve list over the course of the regular season, in addition to tackle Dylan Cook and outside linebacker Jeremiah Moon, who have already been designated for return. Skowronek, linebacker Tyler Matakevich and defensive tackle Logan Lee are all eligible to be designated for return, as well.

Against Atlanta in Week 1, he played 11 snaps, all on special teams, working as a punt gunner and on both kickoff coverage and return teams. Last week in Denver, he played 12 snaps of special teams over four phases, and recorded his first tackle with the Steelers. He also played six snaps of wide receiver, without receiving a target.

Cornerback James Pierre, who was signed to the practice squad on Tuesday, is expected to replace Skowronek on special teams. Pierre was a significant special teamer for the Steelers from 2020-23 and had been with the Washington Commanders this offseason before being released after training camp.
